Sorry, no runner for Laxman: Ponting

Bengaluru: Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has already announced that V.V.S. Laxman will not get a runner, if he asks for one, for the Bengaluru Test.

"Laxman cannot come into a match with pre-existing injuries and then ask for a runner," he said when asked whether he would allow one if he happens to play the match.

"He did not look uncomfortable at all while batting in Mohali. However, we are not really bothered about his presence in the team," he added.

"With the batting line-up that India has, it is hard to talk about anyone in particular. Every Indian is a tough customer in these conditions here. Until you get them all out, one cannot be sure. They showed how dangerous they can be at Mohali," added Ponting, hoping to strengthen his bowling attack for this Test.

"My bowlers need to have their plans reworked if they are to get better of the Indian batsmen. I want to make sure that our plans are spot on," added Ponting, assuring great cricket for the next five days.

"We are well prepared and we will play good cricket. We have taken a lot of positives from our defeat in Mohali," said the skipper, hoping that some of his batsmen, including Michael Clarke, to get some good scores.

Ponting concluded by hitting out at Champions League.

"It wasn't a good idea for some of my players to have played in it. It was definitely a hard work on not only Bolinger and Michael Hussey but also (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni. We need to learn a lesson from it to ensure that players are fit for a series."
